About Me

My name is  Dr Christopher Crowe  – a professional astronomer and teacher. I am an elected fellow of the  Royal Astronomical Society and  Head of Astronomy at the international Harrow School in London, UK. I run the  Rayleigh Observatory and teach astronomy. I was previously part of a research team at the  University of Cambridge  studying relic radiation from the big bang and worked in the same department as the late Stephen Hawking while studying for my PhD. Over the last nine years I have lectured around the world as part of my role in the Royal Astronomical Society, have recently been invited to join Viking as the resident astronomer onboard their flagship Orion ship, have run science festivals, delivered public outreach lectures, and stargazing parties all over the UK, and gave a TEDx talk last year that now has over 500,000 views on YouTube. Recently I have been part of a team designing a new state-of-the-art observatory in the Caribbean.

It has been an honour to meet people from all over the world while lecturing on the  Queen Mary 2. My passenger ratings have always been excellent thus Cunard have maintained their link with me. Going forward I would love the opportunity to lecture for your line in addition to Cunard and Viking. I have a library of over 25 astronomical lectures to suit locations around the world and all age groups, love to host  narrated stargazing parties  on the top deck at night, and can tailor my talks to focus on the sky above a  particular region (e g “Exploring The Caribbean Night Sky” or “Wonders of the Southern Sky: From Galaxies to Black Holes”). can also provide a special VR headset setup for virtual stargazing parties which can be conducted in any location at any time with small groups of guestsI also love spending my time on-board meeting and talking to guests, and during the daytime can also host sessions safely looking at the  features on the surface of the Sun  through a special telescope which I bring along with me.

Please get in touch if you would like me to join your team to provide stargazing, lecturing and astronomy activities, I would be very happy to speak to you either in person or via Skype/WhatsApp/Teams etc regarding this and provide any other details or references you may require.
